Don’t Let Cloudy Vision Slow You Down

What is FLACS Robotic Cataract Surgery?

Refractive Eye Surgery

FLACS (Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery) is a ground-breaking cataract surgery at Sohana Eye Hospital that combines the benefits of the cutting-edge femtosecond laser and the AI Callisto surgical navigation and guidance system for the most precise results. While the femtosecond laser technology replaces the blade used in traditional surgery, the Callisto offers real-time assistance and visual guidance to the surgeon. Together, the two technologies ensure a highly smooth, painless procedure with optimal lens positioning - making robotic+AI cataract surgery safer, faster, and much more precise as compared to traditional methods.

Given the unmatched level of comfort, perfect placement of the IOL, and superior visual outcomes, this technology is ideal for patients seeking a blade-free and painless cataract treatment with excellent vision quality.

Highlights of FLACS:
  • 100% bladeless, painless, and sutureless
  • US-FDA approved femtosecond laser
  • IOL personalised to each patient’s unique eye condition
  • Minimal trauma to the eye and a quicker recovery
  • Accurate & precise cataract removal
  • No hospital stay required

How FLACS Works

Step-1

Numbing Eye Drops

Before the surgery begins, the patient is given numbing eye drops to make sure he/she doesn’t experience any pain or discomfort during the surgery.

Step-2

Laser-Assisted Incision Creation

The surgery begins with making a small cut in the cornea to reach the lens. Advanced imaging through the Callisto system lets the robotic femtosecond laser make a neat circular opening in the lens capsule (also known as capsulotomy).

Step-3

Lens Fragmentation

Then the laser, guided by a computer, softens and breaks down the cloudy lens (cataract) into smaller pieces. This reduces the need for ultrasound energy, which can harm your eyes. Because of the femtosecond laser, the complete process of cataract removal is made gentler and smoother.

Step-4

Lens Removal and IOL Placement

Next, the broken-down cataract fragments are gently suctioned out through the small incision made in the cornea at the beginning of the surgery. Following this, a new, artificial intraocular lens (IOL) suited to the patient’s visual requirements is implanted for crystal clear vision.

Step-5

Quick Recovery

Since the surgery is blade-free, sutureless, and minimally invasive, recovery is relatively fast. Most patients report sharper vision within the 24-48 hour period.
